Mary Goebel Joins the Board

wear blue: run to remember is honored to welcome Mary Goebel, AVP and Chief of Staff at USAA Life Insurance Company, to its Board of Directors. Mary brings over 25 years of leadership experience with USAA and a deeply personal connection to wear blue’s mission of honoring and supporting military service members, veterans, and their families.

Mary’s connection to wear blue began at the USAA Memorial Day ceremony in 2023, where she was profoundly moved by Lisa Hallett’s story of loss, resilience, and purpose. “I’ve always believed in the power of movement to heal and inspire. As a longtime runner, I’ve experienced firsthand how movement is medicine,” Mary shared. “My grandfather, a veteran wounded in combat, tragically took his own life when I was a child. While I’ve never served myself, his sacrifice and story have deeply shaped my commitment to supporting those who have.”

In addition to her extensive professional expertise in strategy, operations, and workforce planning at USAA, Mary is a dedicated advocate for community engagement and nonprofit leadership. She has actively supported military families throughout her career and serves on the Vibrant Works Board of Directors in San Antonio.

As a new member of the wear blue Board, Mary looks forward to championing initiatives that align with the organization’s strategic goals. “I’m committed to learning how I can best amplify wear blue’s mission. I hope to see growth in the number of families we serve, the healing impact of our programs for Gold Star runners, and a renewed sense of hope across the nation,” she said.

Lisa Hallett, Co-Founder and CEO of wear blue: run to remember, expressed her excitement for Mary’s addition to the Board, saying, “Mary Goebel is an incredible professional with an earnest commitment to serve our military, veteran, and surviving families. We are grateful to have her leadership guide wear blue: run to remember into the next chapter, as we serve our military community at such a critical moment in history. It is a privilege to welcome her expertise and passion for service to our wear blue Board.”

Mary’s leadership and passion for honoring the service and sacrifice of our military will be instrumental in shaping wear blue’s continued impact and growth. Together, we aim to foster meaningful connections and purposeful steps to remember, honor, and support those who serve.
