Mona Dexter Joins the wear blue Board of Directors
wear blue: run to remember is proud to welcome Mona Dexter to our Board of Directors. A dedicated advocate for the military community, Mona’s connection to wear blue runs deep, dating back to 2014 when she first ran through the tribute wear blue Mile at the Marine Corps Marathon.
Like so many, Mona found herself struggling in the later miles of the race when she encountered the tribute Mile honoring the fallen. Overcome with emotion, she felt an immediate shift—her personal discomfort faded as she was reminded of the greater purpose behind every step. That moment ignited a lasting connection with wear blue.
Since that first experience, Mona has actively participated in and co-organized wear blue community runs, lacing up her shoes to honor the fallen in races around the world in blue, including the Boston and Great Wall of China marathons. But one of her most moving experiences came in 2017, when she returned to the Marine Corps Marathon as a volunteer on the wear blue Mile. While holding a tribute flag, she was approached by a runner who stopped mid-race to embrace her. The runner was a Gold Star mother, who had just spotted her son's name on Mona’s flag. In that moment, the power of remembrance, connection, and healing came full circle.
Mona now brings that same passion and purpose to wear blue’s Board of Directors. As the Vice President of Military and Veteran Affairs at Comcast NBCUniversal, she leads enterprise-wide military engagement initiatives that promote digital opportunity, workforce development, and community impact. With a background in organizational leadership, nonprofit management, and federal service, she is a dedicated advocate for service members, veterans, and their families.
A former military spouse for over 25 years and a proud mother of a U.S. Army soldier, Mona’s personal and professional experience makes her a vital addition to the wear blue leadership team. We are honored to have her serve in this capacity as we continue our mission to honor the fallen, support the fighting, and serve the families of the fallen.
